about

Incredibly important document of the formative recordings of arguably the most important current purveyor of Italian darksound: Tony Tears.

This is the first time these first demos (recorded when Antonio was a mere 15 years old!) and show a teenager with an almost supernatural sense of dark musicality.

Opener "The Rage" is total brutal tone and heavy metal riffing with weird, clumsy drum machine patterns, very reminiscent of Antonius Rex's "Neque Sempre..." LP.

After this is synthesiser all the way. It's very simplistic stuff but totally atmospheric. Often just two tracks of keyboard lines, sometimes quite discordant and jarring. There's a real eerie sense of dread and weird creeping occult discomfort throughout.

"Dungeon synth" wasn't a thing yet, and it would be churlish to think that any Norwegian cave-dwellers were listening to such an obscure recording, but it should be noted that this came out years before Mortiis or Varg Vikernes had picked up a keyboard.

Those looking for the more doom-ish sound of "classic" Death SS/Paul Chain, or even more well-known records of Tony Tears may be disappointed, but I'd suggest those people don't get dark sound. This music is all about atmosphere, and this somewhat naive recording has that in spades. The true sound of Italian horror!
