Here we have a split from two of the UK's best new wave of heavy doom!
Bismuth are a two-piece from Nottingham and make one of the most unholy rackets on just a bass and drums I've ever heard put to tape! Their side of this split is a 17 minute slow-motion low-end rumble, with shudderingly low bass frequencies cut through by high-pitched wailing screams. It all comes to a creeping lull of feedback and dense tone toward the end.
Undersmile's track is a droning funeral mantra of epic proportions. Taking the sombre majesty of the classic funeral doom sound and introducing a more sludge mentality, this is a plodding, enthralling side of wax, and the twin non-screamy female vocals really set it apart. Excellent!
Stunning Tony Roberts artwork which suits the mood of these bands perfectly and remids me of the grandiose illustrations from the original publication of The Hobbit!
Split release between AWWFN, Tartarus and Graanrepubliek. 300 copies, 100 on black/red swirl (SOLD OUT!) and 200 on black vinyl.
